Frequently asked questions about our products. Hopefully we can answer some of your questions about our GRP Products below.
Q. What does GRP mean.?
A. Glass reinforced Plastic or Glass reinforced Polyester or Fibre reinforced or glass fibre or even fibreglass
Q. What is GRP?
A. GRP is a composite, a compostion of materials which, when bought together under the right condtions, form a tough, lightweight, durable laminate with great strength.
Q. Is GRP used to manufacture anything else
A. Grp has traditionally been used on vehicle bodies(from racing cars to lorries),boats, buildings, tanks, doors, panels and many more products including chimneys on new building projects. Therefore canopies can be made to withstand the elements.
Q. Is Grp Maintenance Free?
A. GRP doesn't dent, corrode, rot, support infestation or bacteria and has a high strength to weight ratio being several times stronger than a mild steel on a weight for weight basis. It is especially good in strong seasonal winds.
Q. What gives GRP its strength?
A. Think of reinforced concrete-steel rods laid in wet mix which, when cured, will have a greatly enhaced strength. Now consider millions of small lass rods, thinner than a human hair, laid in a sticky, viscous liquid-usually polyester resin-which sets to a hardened laminate. Without the rods impact would shatter the laminate. However, with rods the impact is absorbed and the product becomes shatter-resistant just like our GRP Door canopys
